Beverley care home joins forces with pupils for sports day

Residents at a care home in Beverley have enjoyed a sport-tacular day of activities with local schoolchildren.

Care UK’s Chapter House, on Keldgate, welcomed pupils from Beverley Minster School for a busy day of friendly competition.

Participants laced up their trainers and soaked up the sporting atmosphere. With gold medals on the line, the pupils got involved with all the fun and games, including egg-and-spoon races, football and other sports day classics.

As the afternoon progressed, residents and children channelled their inner strength as they got into the competitive spirit, competing against each other in a series of sporting activities. football and golf were firm favourites.

Resident Richard, 78, said: “The sports day was fantastic, and the children were very well behaved. I didn’t do many sports as a child, but I remember going to watch my children doing the egg and spoon and the sack race.”

Stephanie Blake, Deputy Home Manager at Chapter House, added: “It was lovely to welcome Beverley Minster School to join our sporting celebrations.

“Intergenerational events like this can make such a difference and help residents to stay socially connected, forging links with the local community.

“It was such a wonderful day filled with so much joy and laughter. What a fantastic way to bring everyone together for a little healthy competition and to celebrate this year’s summer of sport, all while showcasing what life is like at Chapter House.”

Chapter House offers full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, the home incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
