Kingston Vale care home residents team up with school for matchday magic

Football fever has officially kicked off at a care home in Kingston Vale as residents welcomed a local football team for an afternoon of sporting fun.

Care UK’s Sherwood Grange, on Robin Hood Lane, teamed up with AFC Wimbledon to take part in chair football and join the nation in celebrating the huge summer of sport.

Residents got stuck into the football themed games hosted by Alan, Chloe and Haydon the Womble, which brought plenty of laughter and friendly competition.

72-year-old resident Chris Morris said “What a fun afternoon, the games really brought out my competitive streak! I also enjoyed seeing some of the football memorabilia Wimbledon AFC brought for us to see.”

The event was part of Care UK’s ‘Goal-den Moments' initiative, which encourages residents to reminisce about cherished football memories with different generations and create new memories together.

Malgo Wcislo, Home Manager at Sherwood Grange, said: “We had a ball opening our doors to AFC Wimbledon to take part in chair football!

“For many residents, football is more than just the beautiful game – it represents a lifetime of treasured memories and traditions. This event allowed us to honour these special moments and bring them to life once again.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together for a day of matchday magic. It was truly heartwarming to watch residents reminisce and share their favourite football stories from years gone by.

“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to AFC Wimbledon for joining us and making this a day to remember. With spirits high, everyone involved proved they still have plenty of goal-den skills to show off!”
