Norwich care home resident marks 100th birthday with joyful family celebration

There were plenty of smiles – and slices of cake – as a care home resident in Norwich celebrated an incredible milestone birthday.

The team at Care UK’s Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane, pulled out all the stops for Irene Beckett’s 100th birthday, hosting a special celebration at the home with her fellow residents and family, including her twin sister, Muriel.

The twins continued their celebration with an afternoon tea at Park Farm Hotel in Norwich, where they spent time reminiscing about their shared century together.

When asked for her advice for living a long and happy life, Irene said: “Keep smiling, keep going – and always make time for the people you love.”

Born just minutes apart on 25th May 1926, Irene and Muriel have shared an inseparable bond since birth. Over the decades, they have experienced many of life’s most memorable moments side by side – including a double wedding and honeymoon in 1949.

Throughout her life, Irene built a reputation as a dedicated and compassionate professional, working as a Manager at a Co op store before also pursuing her passion for hairdressing. She has also always been an avid football fan and loves settling down to watch a match. A devoted mother to her daughter Jill and her son Paul, Irene has always treasured the time she shares with her family.

Although Irene now lives at Cavell Court, Muriel visits regularly and the pair can often be found enjoying a cup of tea together.

Speaking about her special day, Irene said: “I loved having all my family and friends come to the home to celebrate our birthday with us. I still can’t believe I’ve turned 100. It’s wonderful, and I’m thrilled to be able to share this milestone with my sister. It has been a very special day that I will always remember.”
