High Wycombe care home scores big for football charity

A care home in High Wycombe has welcomed the local community for an afternoon of sporting fun to raise money for a football charity.

Care UK’s Ridley Manor, in Lane End, was able to present Wycombe Wanderers Foundation with a £740 donation after its football-themed event.

On the day, attendees took part in a ‘hit the target’ game, table football and themed arts and crafts. There were also plenty of prizes to be won with a tombola and a raffle, alongside a delicious barbecue prepared by the care team.

Resident Gillian said: “Good food, good company for a perfect afternoon, and I was over the moon with the amount we raised.”

Wycombe Wanderers Foundation aims to create an educated, healthier and more connected community, and will use the donation to offer a week at its summer soccer camp to six of its young carers from deprived families.

Juliet Shayler, from the foundation, said: “This will make a huge impact on six youngsters who care for others and love football but don't have the means to pay for holiday camps.”

Hayley Devereux, Customer Relations Manager at Ridley Manor, added: “We had a ball opening our doors to the community to take part in a football charity day!

“For many residents, football is more than just the beautiful game – it represents a lifetime of treasured memories and traditions. This event allowed us to honour these special moments and bring them to life once again.

“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to those who came together for Wycombe Wanderers Foundation and made this a day to remember. With spirits high, everyone involved proved they still have plenty of goal-den skills to show off!”

Ridley Manor provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence, the home incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies, including a cinema room, hair and beauty salon and café.
