Orpington’s newest care home has marked its latest construction milestone with the help of a VIP guest.
The Care UK team was joined by Mayor of Bromley Councillor Christine Harris for a special topping-out ceremony at Tawny Manor on Court Road, which is set to open next spring.
Councillor Harris laid the last tile on the roof of the building to mark the external build officially complete. She then met the team to speak about the plans for Tawny Manor’s future.
Cllr Harris said: “It was a pleasure to be part of an exciting milestone for this site and to see the facilities taking shape. While the council is always keen to support residents staying in their own homes as long as they comfortably can, it is important to have options available when they need to move from their homes, as residents deserve compassionate and professional care to help them through what can be a distressing period of transition. This is a welcome addition to the facilities available in Orpington, especially given that Bromley has the highest number of residents aged over eighty in London.
Once complete, the multimillion-pound care home will provide full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care, for up to 74 people. Facilities will include a cinema, hair and beauty salon and pub.
Jake Higgins, Development Project Manager at Care UK, said: “We’re thrilled to have reached this significant milestone in the construction of Tawny Manor. The topping-out ceremony is a proud moment for everyone involved and brings us one step closer to opening the doors to what will be a beautifully designed care home.
“We’d like to thank Councillor Christine Harris for coming along. We can’t wait to give members of the community the grand tour once the home’s interior is complete!”
Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives, while also promoting independence, Tawny Manor will incorporate plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
