There were plenty of smiles at a care home in Wilmslow when one resident celebrated a milestone birthday.
Evelyn “Evie” Cornish, a resident at Care UK’s Long Stone Manor, on Manchester Road, marked her 104th birthday in style with a party at the home.

The centenarian enjoyed a celebratory glass of wine and cake prepared by the home’s head chef, alongside her fellow residents, family and friends.
When asked about her secret to living a long and happy life, Evie said: “Daily exercise and a nice cup of tea with a sweet treat, either a toffee or an éclair!”
Evie was born in Southport in 1922 and has always called the town home. She met her husband during the second world war, and together they went on to raise five children.
A passionate lover of music and dance, Evie began studying ballet as a child at the Hammond Dance School in Chester and later became a professional ballet dancer. She performed throughout her early adult life and, during the war, worked with the Entertainments National Service Association, entertaining soldiers stationed across the country.
Following her dancing career, Evie opened her own dance school in Amersham, where she shared her love of ballet with future generations.
Alongside dancing, she was a keen knitter and enjoyed spending time with animals, two hobbies that remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Laura Foster, Home Manager at Long Stone Manor, said: “Evie’s 104th birthday was a true celebration. She has lived an extraordinary life and always has so many wonderful stories to share, especially of her former days as a ballet dancer!
“It was wonderful to see Evie surrounded by all her loved ones to mark such an incredible milestone. The team worked tirelessly to make sure his day was one to remember, and we would like to thank everyone who came along to party with us. Cheers to Evie!”
