Witney care home shares summer spirit with the community

A care home in Witney opened its doors to bring residents, family and neighbours together for a summer fair packed with laughter and local flavour.

Residents at Care UK’s Millers Grange, on Curbridge Road, enjoyed a day filled with traditional funfair favourites, lively entertainment and tasty treats – creating an atmosphere brimming with community spirit.

Guests indulged in tipples provided by Witney Round Table, who hosted an extensive bar featuring local craft drinks – including ‘Yabba Dabba Do’, a brand-new beer launched in collaboration with Little Ox Brewery. Residents even got stuck in behind the bar to help mix and serve the drinks.

The residents’ competitive spirit was at an all-time high as they took part in games such as Hook-a-Duck, rubber axe throwing and parachute games as well as trying their luck at the raffle and tombola for the chance to win prizes.

Visitors were also invited to explore Millers Grange, including a hair and beauty salon, cinema and café, to see what life is like at the home.

97-year-old Charlie Pannons, resident at Millers Grange, said: “I absolutely loved the fair! I love when the team come in with no uniform as it feels like we’re a proper family.

“The Yabba Dabba Do beer was lovely and I liked learning the story about how it was made with Round Table and Little Ox. Kye, the chairman at Round Table, was so interesting to talk to.”

Rachel Scurr, Home Manager at Millers Grange, said: “Maintaining strong relationships with the community is an important part of our ethos, and our summer fair provided us with a wonderful opportunity to welcome the people of Witney into our home.

“We were delighted to see the residents and guests play games, dance and laugh all afternoon. We loved seeing familiar and new faces on the day and already can’t wait for our next community event.

“We want to thank everyone who helped us host a wonderful day full of joy, fun and friendly competition.”

Millers Grange is a modern care home that provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to lead enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own café, cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
