Every colleague makes a difference at Clara Court.
Each team member at Clara Court – whether they’re in housekeeping, the lifestyle team, or are a carer – gets to know your loved one, so they can understand what’s important to them and the kinds of things they enjoy doing. In fact, the high level of engagement of our home team was mentioned in our 'outstanding' CQC report. We're passionate, committed and focused on doing the absolute best for residents. We also like to have fun too!
Residents at the heart of the home
We have a thriving gardening club, with members looking after the Clara Court grounds. We organise regular activities and outings that residents tell us they’d like to do. Art sessions, live musical entertainment, tai chi classes and dancing (including Bollywood dancing) are some of our most popular requests. Of course, during COVID-19, our activities have looked a little different, but the team have worked hard to continue favourite things to do whilst maintaining social distancing, as well as creating some new activities so residents always have plenty to keep them happy and entertained. We’ve also embraced new technology, using electronic tablets not only to help keep in touch with loved ones, but also to enjoy virtual entertainment such as streaming concerts, or even to learn new skills.
Enjoying good food
We like to eat out from time to time and residents enjoy having dinner out and about on some evenings and on special occasions and for celebrations our dedicated in-house chef prepares themed dishes. We also do regular cookery activities such as baking and cake decorating for residents which are always popular – for both those taking part as well as everyone that gets a chance to eat some of the results!
Removing the myths around dementia
Many of our residents are living with dementia, and we’re passionate about playing our part in raising awareness of dementia and what it involves. Pre-COVID we’ve forged ties with local schools and community groups to help spread the word that people with dementia are just normal people. Our link up is creating some lovely relationships between the generations, particularly for residents who have no young family members.
During COVID, we’ve been able to continue these relationships as well as build new ones, using technology such as tablets as well as traditional methods to keep in touch with loved ones. We’ve even made some new friends in our wonderful community who have supported us during this time.
Our Facebook page is a great way to keep up with what residents are doing at Clara Court.
