I have been here as manager since it opened in 2005. I started working as a carer in 1997 and over the years I worked my way up to become a care home manager. I’ve been involved with Collingwood Court from the very beginning, when we were just planning the new home. I marketed Collingwood Court and I've recruited everyone who works here. So I'm very committed to the home, our team and everyone who lives here. When I'm not here, everyone jokes that 'the captain's gone!’
We treat residents as if they were our own mum or dad. It's really rewarding to hear residents say 'this is my home' or, when they've come back from a spell in hospital, 'I've come back home'. That's when we know that we've got the care just right, that we're meeting their needs perfectly and that they're truly settled here. And visitors comment on how there's always someone to greet them and that they really do feel that they're walking into a family home.
I'm very proud of everyone in our team, all the activities we offer residents and the fantastic links that we have with the community. We’re all very proud to have such a good reputation with local people, healthcare professionals and the social services team.
In my own time, I'm a big football fan – I'm a Newcastle United season ticket holder and I either watch or go to all the matches. And when I'm not doing that, I love to spend lots of time with my family and my three grandchildren.
