Trusted to care in Chester, Cheshire
The dedicated and experienced team at Deewater Grange in Chester will provide your loved one with care that’s completely tailored to their individual needs and wishes.
I worked as a District Nurse for ten years, which I really enjoyed.
However, working in a care home was the ideal next step, and a great way to develop my management skills.
I always aim to be approachable and to lead by example. I think being clear with the team about your expectations of them is key. I also give them plenty of support to develop their skills and take on new responsibilities. I get a huge amount of support from the team. We have fun together, which is so important!
I love seeing the residents enjoying themselves and taking part in the activities that the lifestyle team runs. Hearing about people’s lives and experiences is fascinating, and there’s so much we can, and do, learn from the people we care for.
In my free time I enjoy getting away from it all with my family – I have six children, so there’s always something going on. We love holidays in Scotland and spending time by the sea.
I’m new to the care industry.
My previous career has mostly been spent working in the aviation industry. Most recently I managed corporate jets in the Middle East.
When I was looking for a career change, I researched the care sector extensively, and Care UK stood out to me as an organisation that’s committed to providing an outstanding customer experience, and is focused on developing and investing in its people. I also wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.
I enjoy building a great rapport with customers and gaining a deeper understanding of their needs. I get huge satisfaction when I see somebody smile because of the great service I have given them.
I’m looking forward to getting to know Deewater Grange, and the residents and their families. I’m excited to be a part of a team delivering an exceptional care experience.
In my spare time I love being in the outdoors, walking my dog, cycling or running along the coast. I also enjoy cooking and experimenting with new dishes.
I studied English Language and Literature at university and volunteered as an Activities Assistant in a care home in vacations.
It was at that point that I fell in love with this role, and with working in the care sector. After I graduated, I worked in the retail sector for a year, but I missed this work, so that’s when I joined Deewater Grange.
There’s a tremendously strong and caring team here at Deewater Grange. We support each other and I have a lot of freedom to run different kinds of activities so residents can enjoy lots of stimulation and variety.
It’s been wonderful to be able to get out on day trips post-pandemic. We’ve cruised on the River Dee and enjoyed pub lunches. We get a lot of mileage out of these trips as the residents love them and chat about them for a long time afterwards.
However, for many residents, the most meaningful thing you can do is to spend quality time with them, having a really good conversation. It’s those times that I really relish as you can see the difference it makes. I’ve learnt a huge amount from the residents – different craft techniques, as well as how to knit and how to play certain card games!
I’ve worked in hotels and restaurants before joined Deewater Grange in 2020.
I was very surprised and impressed when I saw the quality of food and dining that residents enjoy at Care UK. It’s hotel quality. I thought I could bring my own knowledge and skills to benefit the residents and enhance their experience even further.
The kitchen team is like my second family. We get on really well, which means coming to work is a joy. We’re also very passionate about doing our best for the residents and the team. Marco Pierre White is one of my cheffing idols, and I once got the chance to work alongside him, which taught me so much. I did some of my training in one of his Grillhouses too. It all showed me how crucial quality is to cooking.
One of my favourite times of the day is after dinner, when I go to the suites and have a chat with the residents. It’s a chance to find out how they are, what they’ve been doing, and to get their feedback about the food we’ve served.
Away from work, I get out and about with my other half. We’ve just got two huskie puppies, who are keeping us busy too.
I moved to Care UK in 2015 because it was a large and successful company with a good reputation.
I worked in one of the organisations established care homes in Chester before moving to Deewater Grange when it opened in 2020.
This is a very busy role, so good organisational skills are a must. I enjoy being methodical and completing tasks, so Im in the right job! It also helps to be good with technology, as there are lots of systems to learn. Lastly, being approachable and friendly with relatives and residents is a must too.
I love the beautiful, modern surroundings of Deewater Grange, and that theres so much here for residents to enjoy. Im personally enjoying getting to know my colleagues, as well as our residents and their families.
In my spare time I enjoy socialising with friends and family, going to the gym, walking the dog, or doing puzzles and bingo.
Id been working in the plumbing trade for several years before I was offered this role at Deewater Grange.
I was over the moon to join the team because Care UK has such a great reputation.
I like the fact that no two days are the same at our Chester care home. It keeps me on my toes! Also being able to make a difference to an older persons life, even in a small way, is a great feeling.
These are exciting times at Deewater Grange as we welcome more new residents, and develop the home. Im looking forward to the challenges ahead and to learning and progressing as part of a fantastic team.
Outside of work I like to unwind by doing photography, and going to the skatepark with my son Lucas.
Hi everyone, I'm Mabel.
I'm four years old and my white and fluffy appearance is due to me being a Chorkie - that is, a Chihuahua crossed with a Yorkshire Terrier.
You can find me around the home during the week when I'm available for treat eating and trick performing. I can sit, lie down, high five and roll over. If you've got the treats, I've got the tricks!
Mine is the best job you can have at Deewater Grange. I get to meet and greet visitors and I let residents make a fuss of me whenever they like. I also like to sit in on new staff interviews. What that really means is I like to sit on new staff in interviews. I'm here to make sure that new team members will love the residents as much as I do!
