Home Manager

Carmela Magbitang

Originally from the Philippines, I am a nurse by profession and I’ve been working in the care sector for more that 20 years, since moving to the UK.

I continually try to enhance my knowledge and skills as a nurse. As a Home Manager, it allows me to make a difference across the wider community.

I was part of an NHS pilot project designed to reduce hospital admissions, not just in residential care but for any elderly person at home. It was a fascinating project, and I am proud to have been at the forefront of this initiative.

What truly resonates with me is the personal connection I foster with the residents. I prioritise spending meaningful time with them, integrating myself as a familiar presence rather than just an authority figure, and ensuring their comfort and well-being. I sit next to them and find the time to check the whole home’s environment and work closely with my wonderful team here at Dormy. For me, caregiving is a heartfelt commitment to providing the level of care I would want for my own family.

Drawing from my upbringing in the Philippines, where intergenerational living is customary, I approach each resident as a cherished member of my own family, overseeing every aspect of their care with meticulous attention.

I bring more than 20 years of culinary experience across hotels, restaurants, retirement communities and care homes.

I am passionate about preparing high-quality meals that support residents' wellbeing while also creating enjoyable dining experiences.

Outside work, I enjoy cooking, fitness, music and spending time with family and friends.

Our dedicated lifestyle teams work hard to organise a range of activities and events at our home. From gardening and baking to quizzes, music sessions and even live entertainment. Above all, we get to know your loved one to make sure our activities are tailored to suit their interests and hobbies.

Home support roles

From catering to maintenance, housekeeping to administration, our home support teams play a crucial part in ensuring individuals enjoy an exceptional and safe service every day.

All our teams get to know each person they care for to ensure they provide a service that’s designed around their unique needs and tastes. 

Infection control

Every colleague receives training in infection prevention and control as part of their induction and updates regularly through online and in-person learning. Our dedicated IPC Champions in each home help embed safe working practices and raise awareness of hygiene standards.
