Home Manager

Carmela Magbitang

Originally from the Philippines, I am a nurse by profession and have worked in the care sector for more than 20 years since moving to the UK. I am committed to continually developing my knowledge and skills as a nurse, and I value the opportunity my role as Home Manager gives me to make a positive difference across the wider community.

I was part of an NHS pilot project designed to reduce hospital admissions, not only for people living in residential care but also for older people living at home. It was a fascinating project, and I am proud to have been involved in such an important initiative.

What truly resonates with me is the personal connection I build with residents. I prioritise spending meaningful time with them, becoming a familiar and trusted presence rather than simply an authority figure, while ensuring their comfort and wellbeing. I take time to check on residents throughout the home and work closely with my wonderful team at Dormy House. For me, care is a heartfelt commitment to providing the same level of support and compassion that I would want for my own family.

Drawing on my upbringing in the Philippines, where intergenerational living is common, I approach each resident as a valued member of my extended family, ensuring every aspect of their care receives the attention and respect it deserves.

Outside work, I enjoy volunteering, teaching meditation and spending time in nature.

I bring more than 20 years of culinary experience across hotels, restaurants, retirement communities and care homes.

I am passionate about preparing high-quality meals that support residents' wellbeing while also creating enjoyable dining experiences.

Outside work, I enjoy cooking, fitness, music and spending time with family and friends.

Our dedicated lifestyle teams work hard to organise a range of activities and events at our home. From gardening and baking to quizzes, music sessions and even live entertainment. Above all, we get to know your loved one to make sure our activities are tailored to suit their interests and hobbies.

Home support roles

From catering to maintenance, housekeeping to administration, our home support teams play a crucial part in ensuring individuals enjoy an exceptional and safe service every day.

All our teams get to know each person they care for to ensure they provide a service that’s designed around their unique needs and tastes. 

Infection control

Every colleague receives training in infection prevention and control as part of their induction and updates regularly through online and in-person learning. Our dedicated IPC Champions in each home help embed safe working practices and raise awareness of hygiene standards.
