At Foxbridge House we work hard to make each day fun and fulfilling, with a full programme of activities for residents to enjoy.
Our activity co-ordinators plan weekly activities, including arts and crafts, pamper days, gardening, reminiscence sessions, singalongs and quizzes so that there’s something to appeal to everyone. Residents at the care home get very involved in the running of the home. So at any time you may find them helping to run our flower arranging, art or cookery clubs, watering the plants or delivering the post. Our in-house cinema is a great success and one of our residents runs the cinema club, organising and publicising the film showings.
Getting out and about
Many Foxbridge House residents have lived in the local area for many years. They often give us ideas of good places to visit, including National Trust properties and garden centres, theatre outings and trips to the seaside. The care home’s location, close to local shops and a park, also makes it easy for residents to pop out to stretch their legs or pick up a newspaper. We’re close to some charming old pubs and even have a table at one of their weekly bingo mornings!
Foxbridge House residents have a soft spot for animals and furry and feathered friends, large and small, regularly pop in to say hello. We’re lucky to have fortnightly visits from the Pets as Therapy (PAT) dogs, and the local branch of the Guide Dogs Association bring their ‘trainee’ dogs in so they can get used to groups of people. The local stables have stopped by with horses and ponies and there’s even a plan to get up close to some beautiful birds of prey. The Foxbridge House gardens are a haven for wild bird life too, and we often spot a fox passing through – proof that our home is well named.
We love having human visitors too. The care home has already forged great relationships with local schools in Orpington, and residents enjoy being entertained by the schoolchildren. Professional magicians, singers and musicians perform for us throughout the year, and lots of people regularly drop in, from members of the local WI, to an art group and representatives from nearby churches. In fact we’re even recruiting for our own ‘Foxy residents and colleagues choir’, with the plan to visit other nearby care homes to entertain them.
Residents’ health and wellbeing is obviously a priority at Foxbridge House. Regular visits from various professionals, including a doctor, a physiotherapist, a dentist and a hairdresser ensure that everyone is well cared for.
Playing our part
We’re also keen to play an active part in the local community, particularly supporting people in the local Orpington area who care for loved ones with dementia. We hold open evenings and invite speakers from relevant charities and societies; we’re also organising a carers’ café. We’ve also held a cocktail evening at the care home for residents’ relatives to come along to get to know the team better. Next on the list are a quiz night, a grandchildren day, and a barbecue. And we’re only just getting started!
