I’ve been with the Greville House team since 2014. I love supporting and caring for older people and I enjoy all parts of my role – getting to do different things as well as getting to know the people we care for.
I’m very proud of the team we have here at Greville House. While I head up the clinical team, I think it’s important to see yourself as part of the team and being prepared to do whatever you ask your colleagues to do.
I’m also proud of how far I’ve come at Care UK in a short space of time. I joined the organisation as it’s a large company with a great reputation for care and for nurturing its colleagues. I joined as a care assistant, and today I’m a clinical lead. You really can achieve anything here.
I only joined Greville House in 2017. Its my first role since leaving college, and Im loving it. Its very rewarding being able to support older people, and helping to make their life more meaningful and enjoyable. My favourite part of the day is when residents are smiling and enjoying an activity, or theyre going out for an outing with their family.
Im learning a huge amount in my role: Ive already done our experiential dementia training, which was extremely useful and eye-opening. Ive also done the ReVitalyz exercise training. The chair-based classes we run help residents with balance, falls prevention and their general wellbeing.
Ive worked with very young children as a nursery practitioner – I focused on performing arts, as well as craft activities with young children. I was keen to use my skills and knowledge to enable older people to experience meaningful activities, which is why I joined Greville House in 2017.
I find every day very fulfilling. It helps to be flexible, as the weather and even residents changes of mood can all lead to a change in the activities we go with! You need to have some ideas up your sleeve, and the confidence to adapt.
One of the highlights of my time at Greville House so far was the last Care Home Open Day, which residents, colleagues, relatives and visitors all enjoyed so much. It was a great chance to get together and show off what we do. Were looking forward to doing it again this year.
I come from a working background thats very different from care – I used to be a TV studio technician. But when I was looking for a new challenge, a friend recommended I work for Care UK. I joined in October 2017, and the rest is history.
A lot of my previous skills come in handy in this role actually. Being punctual, patient and having an eye for detail is all-important. This is far more people-focused though. I love to chat to residents in the course of doing my job. Theres always something new to learn about people.
Since being in this role Ive achieved my NVQ 5 in Health and Social Care, which Im very proud of. Day-to-day, its a great feeling to see the home looking clean, tidy and reflecting the high standards that residents, their families and my colleagues expect.
I started working for Care UK in 2011. Before joining the Greville House team, I’d been a facilities manager in an office environment for many years. I’d been made redundant from that role, which gave me the chance to try something completely new. I haven’t looked back!
I started as the receptionist here before becoming the business manager. While I use all of my professional skills in this role, it also demands a caring and understanding approach. You need to be sensitive to others. I love that this home feels like a family. We all help, and look after, each other. If I can help out a colleague in any way, then I do, because it’s always reciprocated.
I’ve been working at Greville House since mid 2017. I have skills in tiling, plumbing and electricals, and I wanted to use them to benefit older people. I’ve previously worked in scuba diving and as a boat captain, so I stay a lot drier in this role!
The best part of my job is coming to work and seeing the residents smiling and happy. I do whatever I can to ensure they have everything they need, and they keep busy. We’ll get their bedroom just the way they want it, with pictures and shelves up. I’ll chat to residents and ask for their help with tasks.
