The Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards recognise individual and team excellence at more than 100 care homes nationwide across Care UK’s RCS division.
Graham Watson, head chef at Lauder Lodge on Wakefield Avenue, beat off stiff competition to win the Chef of the Year award, one of 22 accolades handed out during the event.
Having worked in the hotel and leisure industry, Graham has cooked for an array of people, including the likes of David Attenborough and Princess Anne, and his cooking skills have been proven beyond a doubt. However, it was his willingness to challenge himself and set a new standard in the care home industry which truly tilted the balance in his favour.
Lauder Lodge also celebrated another award as Pauline Ritchie was crowned Administrator of the Year. The judges praised her passion and commitment, as she always goes the extra mile for residents, colleagues and visitors alike.
Michelle Reid, home manager at Lauder Lodge, said: “The RCS award ceremony was a truly inspirational evening – it was brilliant to hear about the compassion and dedication of team members, as well as the positive impact this has had on residents, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives.
“We are privileged to have a top-flight chef here at the home. Graham’s meals never cease to amaze us and the residents, and we are thrilled to see his talent and creativity recognised.
“Pauline often goes out of her way to ensure everyone receives the gold star treatment too – she once trekked two miles in a blizzard to pick up a resident’s medication!
“I would like to thank Graham and Pauline and the rest of the team for all their hard work in making Lauder Lodge a wonderful place to live – every single person is such a valuable part of the team and I really appreciate their commitment to the home.”
