Residents at a local care home had a ‘pawesome’ time judging their own dog show, after the home’s team invited four-legged friends from the surrounding community to compete for a top prize.
The team at Care UK’s Highmarket House, on North Bar Place, invited in the local community, and their furry friends, to compete in Banbury’s answer to Crufts. The show was made up of a series of competitions, including ‘waggiest tail’, ‘most beautiful eyes’ and ‘best behaved’, which were all judged by residents. The eight pampered pooches participated in a ‘dog walk’ to help decide who was ‘most fabulous female’ and ‘most magnificent male’.
This was followed by the presentation of the top prize of ‘best in show’ won by Bear, a shih tzu, owned by Banbury resident Alison Tustian. Bear won because of his confident walk, lovely sleek coat and paw-shake with the judges’.
After the special event, residents and visitors enjoyed coffee and cake, while their furry friends were given their edible prizes.
Jo Pohl, home manager at Highmarket House, said: “Helping residents to lead fulfilled lives is at the heart of everything we do here at Highmarket House. We don’t accept that life at a care home has to be a particular way, and ensuring residents have no limitations on the activities they pursue is one of our top priorities.
“We encourage residents to be active members in the community, and we are proud that our dog show was such a success.
“We’re so glad that everyone had a lovely time, and hope to welcome visitors from the community – and their pets – very soon.”
