'Asterbury Place' is chosen by local community as the name of new Ipswich care home

July 8th 2013

After the competition launched in April for the local community to put forward names for their new Ipswich care home, ‘Asterbury Place’ has been chosen as the winning name.

Care UK ran a competition inviting the local community to submit a name for the new care home to be built on Aster Road in Chantry, Ipswich. Over 20 entries were submitted and, after three finalists were selected, the winning name ‘Asterbury Place’ was chosen and approved by the local council and other authorities.

‘Asterbury Place’ was nominated by Harold Double, a customer at Angel Court Wellbeing Centre in Hadleigh. On the 6th of June, Harold was presented with a £100 Love2Shop voucher alongside two other finalists, Care UK colleague Paulette Scott from Bentley who nominated ‘Aster Place’ and Laura Hayden from Ipswich who nominated ‘Churchman’s Care Home’.

Harold Double, winner of the ‘give a home a name’ competition, said he was “shocked and excited” when informed that his nomination had been chosen. Mr Double and his wife, Diane, are looking forward to spending the £100 shopping voucher on a smart outfit to be worn at their niece’s wedding.

Chris Hopkinson, Regional Operations Director at Care UK, said: “I would like to thank all those who entered the first Ipswich ‘give a home a name’ competition and I am delighted that the winning name, ‘Asterbury Place’ has been chosen by the local community”.

He continued: “As a new and valuable service for the area it’s fantastic to have the community involved in the development process”.

Construction is already underway on site, with the opening date scheduled for summer 2014. The new home in Chantry, Ipswich is one of ten new Care UK homes being built as part of a £60 million investment into care provision in Suffolk.

There have been two other ‘give a home a name’ competitions run by Care UK so far, at Great Heath in Mildenhall and Roman Hill in Lowestoft. Three more competitions are currently running, including one to name the new home planned for Alnesbourn Crescent in Ravenswood, Ipswich.
