Winning an award is a momentous occasion for anyone, but winning two awards in the same year is an even bigger achievement. This is a feat that a Care UK employee has achieved in 2013, with Dennah Patterson from Lennox House Care Home winning both a local and national award for dignity in care.
The first award was given by Islington Council in February 2013. Islington Council marked Dignity Action Day by showcasing the work of care staff and contractors who provide a dignified service to residents. Eighteen finalists were nominated by Care Managers across domiciliary care, residential care, extra care and day centres, of which there was a winner for each category. Dennah Patterson was announced as the ‘Outstanding Winner in Residential Care’, something she is extremely proud of.
Islington Council then announced that one of the winners would be put forward for the Great British Care Awards. Dennah was selected and put forward for the Great London region. This took place on Saturday 3rd November at the Lancaster Hotel, where Dennah subsequently won ‘The Dignity in Care Award. The judges who selected Dennah for this award said:
”Dignity is at the heart of Dennah. From the smallest action she understands the importance of personal choices and wishes and ensures dignity is at the forefront of all her care. Congratulations Dennah!”
When asked for her comments on the award, Dennah, who was very humble, said:
“My role is to support the Unit Manager and staff, ensuring that all residents receive the best care possible with dignity which each resident deserves. Care is planned around his/her need; it ensures that their rights, choice, privacy, activity and physical needs are met to a high standard”.
Dennah’s manager at Lennox House, Florence J Clarke was also keen to comment on Dennah’s success and said:
“I am extremely happy, this is a great achievement and we are all so proud. It showcases the high level of care Dennah and our staff provide for residents, ensuring dignity and choice is achieved”
