The Care Home Awards are held annually to celebrate the very best achievements in the long-term care sector. The 17 categories highlight excellence, and reward those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.
The home received praise for its creative use of outdoor space and for how this has been an inclusive project, not only for residents but also for members of the local community.
The centrepiece of the garden at Britten Court is the memory path, which winds its way through fruit trees, to end at the heritage listed oak tree – which takes pride of place in the grounds.
The path itself is a visual representation of the residents, their children and grandchildren, the nurses, carers and everyone involved in making Britten Court the home-from-home it is today. It is made up of decorated stones which have been added to by residents and visitors and gives the garden a sense of personality and belonging.
When asked about the award win, home manager, Chloe Swarbrick, said: “We were all absolutely delighted when it was announced that we had the won the award – the nomination was fantastic in itself, so to have walked away as winners was just the icing on the cake!
“Our garden is an important space for residents, relatives and the care team alike, so I am thrilled that it has been recognised with a national award.
“We have lots of plans for our outdoor areas in the future, including garden art, papier-mâché windmills and a wishing well – so watch this space!”
Speaking after the award ceremony, Care UK’s residential care service managing director Andrew Knight said: “I cannot begin to describe just how proud I am of all the teams shortlisted in these awards. The fact that we were shortlisted for 14 different awards and that five different homes actually took home trophies is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our teams in providing the best possible lifestyle for the 7000 plus people that we support in our homes. It’s fantastic to see this public recognition of that dedication and commitment.”
