Mercia Grange has surprised an 87-year-old resident with a special trip to Villa Park, complete with a meet and greet with stars from Villa’s 1980s squad.
The team at Mercia Grange runs a Wishing Tree initiative to help make residents’ wishes come true. They decided to surprise resident – and lifelong Aston Villa FC fan – Gillian Wall with a special matchday experience, enjoying watching the fixture against Middlesborough in a corporate box, to make her particular dream come true.
Gillian, who used to attend every AVFC game, proved something of a lucky charm for The Villa who won the home game 3-0.
Shirley Gibbs, home manager at Mercia Grange, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Mercia Grange, and we always like to go the extra mile to grant their wishes. I am really pleased that we were able to make Gillian’s wish of enjoying a special day at Aston Villa a reality, not only enabling her to meet former players Tony Morley and Ken McNaught, but also witness a great result for her favourite team. On her return home, we treated Gillian and her fellow residents to post-match fish and chips which was also very well received!”
