Mosaic magic

July 31st 2013

Following lots of discussions we recently decided to re-name our nursing suite and we held a competition to find a new name.

By popular demand the suite is now known as the Nightingale suite after the nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale.

Ms Lynne Gregory, whose mother lives at Riverside, kindly offered to work with residents to make a new sign for the suite. She said: “There is a social group that meets on Thursday mornings. They researched Florence’s background and looked into her work not just as a nurse but as a statistician, mathematician and as a promoter of women’s equality.

“The group decided that they liked the idea of a mosaic sign for the suite and they debated what would be the most appropriate colour scheme. They decided to go for shades of blue as it reflected the blue of nurses’ uniforms.”

The residents worked with Lynne, mapping out the sign as well as sorting the tiles into the necessary shades and attaching them to the sign. She said: “It was a real team effort with residents from other suites coming to the group to help.  It was so interesting to hear everyone’s views about an extraordinary woman’s life and achievements.”
