Tor Na Dee care home invites people in Aberdeen to celebrate Care Home Open Day

June 8th 2016

Care UK’s Tor Na Dee care home in Aberdeen is inviting local people to visit the home on North Deeside Road, Milltimber on Friday 17th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 2pm until 4pm, the team at Tor Na Dee will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

There will be a carnival spirit at Tor Na Dee on Friday with the event themed around the Rio 2016 Olympics.  Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a fun fancy dress relay; and there will be Olympic-inspired games including a tug of war, egg and spoon and three-legged races.  All those who drop-by can tour the home, and meet residents and the Care UK team at Tor Na Dee.

Maureen Barrett, home manager at Tor Na Dee, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.

“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Tor Na Dee has to offer.

“We have got a fun day of activities planned and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 17th June and welcoming the people of Aberdeen to be a part of it.”

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Tor Na Dee will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age.  The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age.  The guide can also be downloaded free at

Tor-Na-Dee is a lively home where the focus is on staying active. The arts and crafts group make soap to sell at the home’s summer fair, while the gardening club grow tomatoes and peppers in the greenhouse. Friends and family also love to get involved - one relative leads the music group, another accompanies the regular singsongs on the organ, whilst others help out in the garden.
