A national care watchdog has given Ventress Hall the seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising its caring and attentive team members.
The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Ventress Hall an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.
The home received ‘good’ ratings in all five categories for safety, effectiveness, responsiveness, caring and having a well-led service.
Praise was given for the care that each team member showed towards the residents, and their friends and family members who repeatedly commended the team’s kindness and support. One relative commented: “I know that my relative is being well cared for all the time and to me that means the world”.
Residents were unanimous in their praise for the care shown by members of the team. One resident commented: “The [team] are brilliant, very caring, and approachable” and another said: “the care here is really excellent I enjoy every day.”
During the inspection, positive interactions and genuine relationships were observed between residents and the carers. The team were friendly, caring and warm in their conversations, crouching down to maintain eye contact, using gestures and touch to communicate.
The report highlighted that the care home gave residents living with dementia memory boxes to fill with items they or their relative felt were important. This facilitated a personal approach to the care provided to residents, with individual preferences and preferred routines taken into account. The memory boxes also encourage reminiscence, helping to stimulate residents’ memories, and aiding interaction with loved ones and care workers.
The report also found that Ventress Hall encouraged residents to be as independent as possible, and took into account individual preferences. For example, at meal times people were not rushed and were offered a choice of meal. One resident commented: “[we] always have a choice”, another added: “We get choices so that’s good but I would like some different food sometimes so I ask and I usually get what I have requested.”
The team ensured that resident’s rooms reflected their personal interests and character. For example, rooms had furniture from their home, ornaments and photo frames of family members.

Everyone here works incredibly hard to support residents with compassionate, person-centred care, and to receive a ‘good’ rating in all five categories shows just how dedicated the team is at looking after every individual’s needs.
