We kicked off our Jubilee celebrations with a “Cockney knees up” at Uxbridge on 31St May 2012 for residents, staff and people from other residential homes.
Everyone enjoyed a good old fashioned sing song, together and afternoon tea, of lots of sandwiches and fresh scones with fresh cream and jam. There was Cockney karaoke with lots of old songs such as “roll out the barrel” and “my old man’s a dustman”
On the actual day of the Diamond Jubilee we didn’t let the weather dampen our spirits and we had both an indoor and an outdoor celebration. Residents who chose to sit indoors watched the Jubilee celebrations on the TV whilst tucking into homemade cakes, which the residents had made themselves. We had a marquee in the garden where there was food and entertainment. There was a sing along to old time music followed by the National Anthem.
Everyone enjoyed a “Crufts” competition, where residents’ relatives brought along their dogs which were judged by residents. The winning dog was called George and his family received a medal, and a treat for the dog.
We moved indoors for more festivities including singing, dancing, piano playing by one of the residents and a drink or two and everyone said they had thoroughly enjoyed the day.
