Extended Opening Hours for Ground-Breaking GP Practice and Walk-In Centre

Company news

The GP practice will open its doors from 8.00am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday, and 10.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday. The Walk-In Centre will open from 7.00am to 10.00pm Monday to Friday, and 10.00am to 6.00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The practice and Walk-in Centre was commissioned by Barking and Dagenham PCT and opened in July 2006. It is NHS funded and so is free to the public. The practice and Walk-in Centre is run by an independent health care business, Care UK.

So far, the GP practice has over 1000 patients on its list and the Walk-In Centre is seeing nearly 300 patients a week.

Both the GP practice and the Walk-In Centre carry out a wide range of treatments and provide the support and advice that patients can expect from an NHS GP and walk-in service.

Joan Woolcock, Manager of the Broad Street facility, commented: "We are delighted with the way in which the local community has taken Broad Street to its heart. We are providing valuable doctor and nurse support to an area that previously had issues with health care cover, and in some cases we are seeing patients who have not been able to see a doctor or a nurse for some time. We are working closely with Barking and Dagenham PCT to provide a service that is relevant to the needs of local people, and we are very pleased that the uptake so far has meant that we can increase our opening hours."

Hilary Ayerst, Chief Executive of Barking and Dagenham PCT said: "Everyone working for the Trust has the best interests of local people as their main focus. We are committed to finding new and innovative ways of providing and improving local services for local people. We are pleased that this new service is proving to provide what is needed in the Borough."
