10,000th patient returns to say thank you to Top Rated Hospital

During the first-ever open day at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre on Sunday 21 March, the Centre’s 10,000th patient made a return visit.

Clowne resident, George Kirk, age 82, had both his knees replaced, in 2007 and 2008. George also became the Centre’s 10,000th patient in 2008 when he was presented with a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.  An ex-miner, George was so overwhelmed at the support, cleanliness and treatment he received that wanted to show his gratitude by attending the Open Day. Amazingly, George walked nearly three miles to Centre, an accomplishment he considers as ‘normal’ in his day to day life.

Graeme Kendall, Manager at Care UK’s Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre said: “It was fantastic to meet so many friendly people and past patients, including George, at our Open Day.  George was welcomed by staff at the Centre and to see him so active is wonderful.  Visitors were fascinated with the theatre tours and they proved very popular; so much so that we had to add extra slots throughout the course of the day.  I'm sure all of my colleagues will join me in saying a huge thank you to everyone who came along.”
