Recruitment drive attracts massive response

Company news

Hundreds of people responded to our recruitment day in Portsmouth to find staff for our new Care UK home due to open in Buckland in the New Year.

“We were very pleased. About 600 responded and some people waited for three hours to be seen. Everyone was patient and good natured despite having to wait for so long. We were very grateful to them all” Jen Adams, Care UK Project Manager, said after the event.

The recruitment day was held in a local girls school following an advertising campaign in the Portsmouth area. We will continue to recruit staff through to the summer of next year.
The new Harry Sotnick House in Buckland, Portsmouth, will be managed by Gary Briggs.

Gary, a Registered Nurse, was appointed a few months ago to head up the new team and is eagerly awaiting the opening of the new 92 bed home which is scheduled for February.
“I was at a site meeting last week and it is very exciting to see our new Home beginning to take shape.” he said.

For the past six years Gary has managed a 120 bed Care home in West London and is looking forward to working in Portsmouth.  “I only live about 30 minutes from Harry Sotnick House, so I know the area quite well already, I’m hoping to make ties with the local community as soon as I can.”Gary said.

Harry Sotnick House is being built on the site of a former council-owned home of the same name. Harry Sotnick was well known as the first Jewish Mayor of Portsmouth and the City Council is very keen for the new home to retain his name and memory. His family maintain a strong interest in the home and the city.

Harry Sotnick House is being specifically designed for older people who have dementia. Staff will work closely with residents to encourage independence and an active lifestyle by involving them in day-to-day activities and more creative pastimes.
