Godalming homes hang out the flags for Kate and Wills

Company news

Residents and staff at Broadwater Lodge, Farncombe, and Jubilee House, Pound Lane, have been planning events and activities and inviting guests to join in the fun.

Katie Belchamber, activities co-ordinator at Broadwater Lodge, said: “The residents are excited about the week of events. On Monday we are decorating eggs to look like the royal couple. On Tuesday, we are making royal plates by decorating paper plates with pictures, glitter and paint. These will be displayed around the home for everyone to see. We will also be using our craft skills and ingenuity to create replica of a royal carriage with its very own horse. On Wednesday, we will be flower arranging and making fairy cakes for the big day.”

The residents and staff will then spend Thursday decorating the home, ready for the wedding on Friday, when residents will be joined for a celebration tea by friends and families.

At Jubilee House, manager Grainne McLaughlin and her team are working to help residents make the day special with a street party for staff, friends and family. Before the wedding, residents will be making cupcakes for a high tea on Thursday 28th April. The tea will have a very British feel with favourite nibbles, balloons, and bunting made in the home.

The residents will enjoy a touch of luxury on the big day as staff serve wedding cake and champagne during the service.

Grainne said: “Our events are always so successful and so much fun because everyone joins in. We are having a fancy dress competition for our 48 residents and staff, with prizes for the best bridal couple.

“We will also have members of the local community joining in. We have excellent relationships with community groups and they are always very happy to get involved. Some of our residents have dementia and complex needs yet they clearly enjoy keeping engaged with a wide circle of people and active with the hobbies they have loved before they joined us.”

Jubilee House provides short and long-term nursing and residential care for older people with dementia. Each resident receives very high levels of personalised care and is encouraged to live as independent a life as possible.
Broadwater Lodge is a residential home for 67 older people with dementia and for those who are frail and dependent. It too offers very high standards of comfort and care in a warm and friendly environment.
