Pinetum opens new unit for specialised care

Home news

We have opened a new unit to care for people with complex health needs.

The new four-bed unit will mean that patients needing ventilating, kidney dialysis and a range of other complex treatments can be cared for at Pinetum which will in turn free up much needed NHS hospital beds.

The unit can take people as part of a step down programme from hospital before returning home, or as long term patients.

Personalised care can be delivered to recognised quality and clinical standards by experienced clinical and care staff. Very complex care needs can be met in a domestic rather than a hospital environment. The unit will also improve patient choice and avoid any inappropriate treatment.

The unit was opened when a bird of prey, a regular visitor to the nursing home as part of the programme of interests, flew to executive team member Andrew Shaw, with scissors in a pouch. The scissors were then given to Senior Nurse, Purity Mugendi who cut the ribbon to perform the official opening.

Pinetum nursing home Manager, Tracy Simpson, said: “This new unit will provide a better quality of life for those we will be caring for. It means that we can offer so much more to the benefit of patients as well as taking the weight off NHS services.”
