Celebrations for official opening of Harry Sotnick House

Company news

There was a village fete atmosphere as residents, relatives and staff joined councillors and over 100 guests at the official opening of the new Harry Sotnick House on Saturday 21st May.

A brass band, a visit from friendly farm animals, bouncy castle and candy floss machine entertained the guests as Councillor Vernon-Jackson, Leader of the Council cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of Harry Sotnick House in Buckland.

Home manager Gary Briggs said: “It was a great family day and residents and staff brought along their relatives to enjoy the fun.”

As well as the Blendworth brass band, dancers from the Iris Barnes dance school and The Giselle Academy of Dance entertained the crowds.

Helen Owens, managing director of Care UK’s residential services, said: “We opened to residents in February and everyone has settled in very well. Feedback from residents, their relatives and health care professionals has been excellent. This really is the mark of what can be achieved when a care provider, committed to high standards and innovation in care, works with a forward-thinking council.”

Councillor Leo Madden of Portsmouth City Council said: “This a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with the residents, staff and their families of the new Harry Sotnick House the opening of this important facility.”

"When the original Harry Sotnick House closed in 2006, we said we would make sure a new care home was built on the site and we have delivered on that promise. Instead of providing a straight forward replacement for the old 45-bed residential care home, we have responded to the need for nursing care for people with dementia and, working with Care UK, have created a 92-bed specialised nursing home.”
