Young badminton players have teamed up with Charlestown Medical Practice to promote the health benefits of sport and exercise as part of its latest healthy lifestyle promotion.
The Junior Badminton Team at Whitemoss Club for Young People in Blackley has joined forces with the GP practice, located on Charlestown Road, to launch a healthy lifestyles campaign designed to encourage the local community to find out how they can help keep fit and healthy and why this provides long-term health benefits.
As part of the campaign, Care UK, the independent healthcare provider that operates Charlestown Medical Practice on behalf of NHS Manchester, is helping to provide funding for Whitemoss Club for Young People, where the badminton club trains.
Lynn Cordock, Care UK’s service manager at Charlestown Medical Practice says: “We are delighted to be able to support the badminton team and include them in our campaign to raise awareness of the importance of keeping fit and the benefits it has on general health.
“Regardless of your age, it’s important to stay active whether that’s through a sport or just some type of gentle exercise every day. These youngsters prove it is not only fun to keep fit but also a great benefit to your overall well being. We hope our campaign will not only raise awareness of the importance of healthy living but also the excellent range of healthcare services we offer here at Charlestown Medical Practice.”
The scheme was endorsed by Whitemoss Club for Young People’s centre co-ordinator John Biggs: “We run a number of sports activities for young people in Blackley so we’re really pleased to join forces with Charlestown Medical Practice to take the message into the community.”
The practice is located within the Charlestown Health Centre in Blackley, North Manchester, and is open Monday and Thursday 8.30am – 8pm, Tuesday 8am – 6.30pm, Wednesday and Friday 8.30am – 6.30pm and Saturday 9am – 1pm.
