Sheila's sight better than ever after surgery at St Mary's

Company news

Sheila Hiscott from Cowplain has had problems with her eyes since childhood, but after Double Cataract Surgery at St Marys Treatment Centre, she is enjoying the simple things in life again.

After having to wear contact lenses for over 35 years, Sheila had become used to having far from perfect vision.  However in recent times her eyesight had deteriorated further and her Optician recommended to her GP that she required Cataract surgery on both eyes – and just a few weeks later she came for her first visit to St Marys Treatment Centre.

Sheila said: “I trust my Optician as I’ve been going to them for many years – so when he said I needed the surgery I had no hesitation.  My GP then recommended the Treatment Centre and said they would be the quickest option – and he was right.”

Sheila had her first Cataract done and then the second just a couple months later and noticed the effects straight away:

“I couldn’t believe it when I woke up the next morning and could see the clock properly without any lenses or glasses!  It’s the simple things you then notice, like I could read the paper without any trouble and see the labels on items at the shop clearly.”

Sheila was delighted with the care from the staff at St Marys and despite the fact she still needs to wear glasses to assist her long vision, her short sight is better than it has ever been:

“The surgery has made a huge difference to my life.  The Consultant and the Nursing staff were so polite every time I visited and even when I rang up with some questions about my eye drops after the surgery – they were only too happy to help.  I would recommend the surgery and St Marys Treatment Centre to anyone!”
