Derbyshire Treatment Centre Drop-in Day defies downpour

Company news

Hundreds of people braved torrential rain to find out more about the medical care available for osteoarthritis and joint pain sufferers.

Over 340 people from across Nottingham, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire attended an Open Day at Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre, run by Care UK, which offers hip and knee replacements, shoulder surgery and minor and major foot and hand procedures. Attendees were split between patients considering surgery at the centre and past patients returning to thank the clinical team for their care.

A highlight for many visitors were theatre tours, which provided an informative and reassuring guide to what happens during surgery. Surgical and nursing staff were on hand to explain what patients could expect before, during and after surgery.

“It was great to have so many attendees at the drop-in day, despite the terrible weather,” commented Graeme Kendell, service manager, Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre. “Undergoing a surgical procedure can be quite daunting, so giving prospective patients the opportunity to come in to the operating theatre beforehand and ask any questions they have can offer a great deal of comfort.”

“We were also delighted to see so many past patients – many of them also brought friends or family members that may also be referred for back or joint issues, which is always a fantastic endorsement of the high quality service and care that our staff provide.”
