Primary school pupils help to name new care home

Company news

Last term, Care UK asked children at the school to think of a name for its new 70-bed home, in nearby Dunnings Road. Due to open in summer 2012, the home will specialise in nursing frail older people and caring for those with dementia.

Three possible names were shortlisted and the pupils were presented with certificates during school assembly.

The final entries are:

Mill Brook – suggested by Charlotte Grainger who said “I chose this name because the stream at the bottom of Dunnings Road is called Mill Brook” and by Freddie Beall who “used to play pooh sticks on the bridge over the stream which is outside the care home.”

Mill View – suggested by Rachel Everitt “Because it overlooks the old mill.”

The Greens – suggested by Harry Hainge as “It was an old bowling club.”

The names have been submitted to West Sussex Council for approval and Care UK will announce the winner in the new term. The winner will receive £100 worth of vouchers and will be invited to bury a time capsule in the home’s grounds.

The new home in East Grinstead is one of the first of around 30 new homes that Care UK will build over the next five years. Another, in the Sussex market town of Crowborough will open next month and work has recently started on a care home in Halstead in Essex.
