Staff and residents at Station House Nursing Home were delighted when they found out they were winners of the Care UK in Bloom competition for their superb gardens.
Station House’s entry, called Our Special Garden, centred on the many interesting and beneficial experiences shared in the garden throughout the year that enhance the wellbeing of residents.
Like most homes, Station House has many residents who were keen gardeners and that knowledge has been used to transform the outdoor space with colour, fragrance and seasonal produce to eat.
The weekly gardening club is so popular they could almost supply a farmers market! Some garden, some potter and others just enjoy relaxing in the surroundings. The sensory borders are filled with lavender, basil, fennel and camomile that give a sweet aroma to calm and sooth.
Birds, bees and butterflies are busy visitors and the home’s two guinea pigs are another source of fun.
The garden is at the centre of many family days such as the Summer Fair. It’s an all year round source of pleasure and activity for residents, relatives, staff and visitors to enjoy.
