Taking a break to raise money for Macmillan at Mitcham care home

Both residents and staff were busy baking and decorating their favourite cakes in preparation for the fundraising event. Home manager Elaine Robson said: "Cancer affects so many people’s lives. Everyone here was committed to raising as much money as possible, and welcoming visitors who came in for a slice of cake and a chat."

The Cumberland, in Mitcham, Surry,  is home to 42 residents with dementia and has an award for its commitment to individual care.

Elaine said: "The key to wellbeing for people with dementia is to keep active and engaged. I have a wonderful team of staff who work hard to ensure that each resident has a genuinely individual care plan that incorporates their likes, dislikes and hobbies.

"As well as a great team, we are also grateful to have the support of relatives of current and former residents who help us on our fundraising days, social events and outings."
