Cake and celebrations for Jack’s centenary

Home news

Residents and staff are busy planning the party of the century to mark the 100th birthday of John ‘Jack’ Jessop on Wednesday 8th February.

Two parties are planned on the big day, with a small special family tea for Jack and his relatives and a party involving everyone in the home.

Jack was apprenticed to Brown Brothers Bookbinding and Printing Company before he served with the East Yorkshire Regiment throughout World War II. When he came home he re-joined Brown Brothers and continued to work there until he retired.

Shortly after returning to Hull, Jack met Gladys, the love of his life. The couple married and had an active community life, attending and participating in the activities of St Paul’s and St Clement’s, where Jack took part in the church plays.

Linda Portlock, the home’s manager, said: “Jack is a lovely man. He is always cheerful and he often tells us stories about how the area used to be.

“We are all looking forward to the party and our catering team will be creating a special cake for the occasion.

“Jack says he is very excited about the party, but he finds it hard to be believe he is nearly 100 because he still feels like a young man!”

Sunningdale Court offers nursing, dementia, palliative and respite care to older people.
