Residents have been queuing up for a bit of glamour and pampering as Sparkles - the Blaydon nursing home’s nail bar - re-opens after a major refurbishment.
Activities co-ordinator and head manicurist Stephanie Campbell said: “The residents decided at one of their regular committee meetings that they would like to have a nail bar - so we created one for them. It proved very popular - so popular in fact that we have moved it to a larger area and created a more sophisticated bar.
“During the move I was on maternity leave, so I used the time I was off to take a training course to give the residents a really professional experience. They have a shape, polish and hand massage and they love having a good old chat as we go.
“They love me to wear my beautician’s tunic: having to book an appointment and go to the nail bar makes it more of an occasion. Neutral shades are very popular, but some of the ladies like to have a splurge on colour. We have a popular shocking pink!”
