There were non-stop celebrations at Stanley Park to mark the Queen’s silver jubilee.
The fun began at 11am with the showing of three short films of the reign of the Queen.
This was followed after lunch by a display of Irish dancing by a local troupe in the day centre.
Next was a sing along led by staff including songs from the early 50’s chosen by residents before we held street parties on all three units, with hats, streamers, buns in union jack cases, sandwiches, sausage rolls and of course ice cream and jelly.
There were hats are in the form of crowns, made by the residents and everyone had their own individual place mats as keepsakes of the celebrations.
In our buildup to the celebrations we asked for residents’ memories of past celebrations which included cleaning all the windows in the street had to be cleaned, steps whitened and children in their Sunday best.
Invitations were sent out to families and friends who popped in to join the celebrations throughout the day.
