Hard work and home grown food help Annie Gaught reach 108

Company news

A lady, born in Devon and now living in Care UK’s Wellmeadow Lodge home near Glasgow, has just celebrated her 108th birthday.

Local newspapers have said that they believe Annie Gaught is Scotland’s second oldest woman.  Mrs Gaught celebrated her birthday by cutting a ribbon to open the annual summer fete at the home before enjoying a party with family and friends.

When asked her secret to a long and happy life, Annie Gaught said: “Hard work, home grown food and plenty of exercise.  And don’t drink – apart from the odd Babycham when the occasion arises!”

Annie married husband Alfred in 1927 and they had one son, Terry. She came to live at Wellmeadow Lodge six years ago and keeps busy with her hobbies including watching sport on TV and doing crosswords.
