Steel band stars at Muriel Street celebrations

Home news

We began preparing for the Queen’s diamond jubilee almost from the beginning of the year with residents and staff showing huge enthusiasm for the celebrations.

The residents suggested a barbeque out in the garden with music and entertainment, so on June 5th we held a party in our grounds.

The gardens and centre were decorated with home-made union jacks, crepe paper flowers, paper chains and garlands all in red, white and blue.

Residents’ relatives contributed to the festivities, donating snacks, drinks, a “Royal”
cake, plates, cups, napkins, table cloths, some bunting and other commemorative decorations.

The Royal buffet with dessert and drinks was planned by our residents, many of whom dressed up for the occasion and had their faces painted.

Entertainment was provided by the Caribbean All Stars steel band, and the Dejavu band with an Elvis Presley impersonator who sang songs from the 1950s. We also had Pearly Kings and guests, ITV Producer Mark Jordan and his mum. Councillors James Murray and Mouna Hamitouche joined the celebrations with our home manager Gladys Danquah for the evening and everyone enjoyed a memorable day.
