A team based at the North East London NHS Treatment Centre in Ilford, Essex has been awarded a prestigious healthcare award for its innovation in medical care.
George Ampaabeng and colleague Venieva Marais, who work for leading healthcare provider Care UK, were among the innovators recognised at the national Health Care Awards for finding new ways to improve services and standards for Care UK patients.
They received the award for Innovation from Mike Parish, Care UK’s chief executive, at an award ceremony in London. The award, one of eight presented, was given for their work with surgeons to bring extra efficiency to the processes for hip and knee replacement operations.
George and Venieva’s dedication has also helped to strengthen relationships with their team of surgeons at the centre on Barley Lane to ensure the highest clinical standards are met.
George said: “We are lucky to have an exceptional team of colleagues here. Venieva and I spent a great deal of time talking to our surgeons about their needs and about new procedures. We then ensured that training was in place to guarantee that we got the very best possible outcomes using the new generation of implants for knee and hip replacements.”
The NHS centre, which serves the North East London area, has six operating theatres, 21 inpatient beds, 24 day-case beds and an outpatient/pre-assessment department. In a recent independent review of UK hospitals produced by the Dr Fosters’ Hospital Guide, Care UK’s hip replacement work was identified as the best in the country.
The Health Care Awards were open to Care UK’s team of more than 2,900 staff who provide expert care and services to patients at GP practices, diagnostics services, NHS treatment centres, out-of-hours services and prisons across the country.
The North East London NHS Treatment Centre offers high quality treatment in oral surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, general surgery and endoscopy. For further information, visit www.nelondontreatmentcentre.nhs.uk or call 0333 200 4069.
