With spring around the corner, the team at the Willows decided it was time to brighten up the reception and, following a meeting of residents, we decided to create a mosaic that would bring the outside inside.
The home chose a mosaic as it would allow lots of people to join in and the finished result will also be entered into a local art competition for the over-60s. The residents created several designs, made during activity sessions, and they ultimately chose a beautiful and colourful flower pattern.
Administrator Gill O’Boyle said: “We went along to our local DIY store and bought the tiles corresponding to the colours we wanted, and had great fun smashing them up.
“We set it up in one of the lounges and invited residents to join us. They enjoyed sticking the tiles to the board and even learnt new skills, as none of us had grouted before. It was great fun and lots of residents popped in and added to the mosaic. They seemed to enjoy the activity along with us and stayed for a while.”
Everyone enjoyed the project so much there are two mosaics planned.
