We grow our own dignity tree

Home news

To celebrate national Dignity Action Day on Friday 1st February residents and the team at Hadrian House made a special dignity tree to capture ideas about dignity, whilst enjoying a coffee morning with family and friends.

Activity Co-ordinators and residents made hearts and painted them purple - the colour chosen to represent dignity.

Both residents and their relatives then wrote what dignity means to them on a heart before they were all hung on the tree.

Activities Co-ordinator Sharon Henderson joined with her fellow Dignity Champion Michelle Pitt to host the event. She said: “Everyone’s ideas of what dignity is are different and it important for us to understand what dignity means to our residents and their relatives.  We had some interesting contributions with residents talking about choice and living life in the way they want to, while relatives were thinking about giving their loved ones privacy and space.”

Our commitment to dignity is on-going. In the year ahead, the team will be looking at what they learned from the day and using that to build on and develop their approach to genuinely person-centred care.
