No need to run, rabbit, run as the stew at Mill View’s V.E celebrations was mock-rabbit stew - but there was plenty of authenticity about the V.E. Day celebrations to bring memories flooding back for many residents.
As well as a street party in the dining room with stew, spam fritters and jelly and trifle, the entertainment had a 1940s flavour with Activities Coordinators Bip Slater and Joanne Jameson and Business Manager Caroline Rooke dressed up as the Andrew Sisters performing classics such as The Chattanooga Choo-Choo and Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree.
Receptionist Caroline Newman came dressed as a Land Army girl. She said: “It certainly brought a smile to many of our residents’ faces and they talked about their memories of the war and about the V.E. parties they had attended at the time.
“Everyone had a wonderful time and they were all very impressed with fellow resident John Dean who dressed up as Churchill and delivered one of his famous speeches from memory. It really was a very special day.”
