Centenary birthday milestones at Blyford wellbeing centre

Company news

Birthday celebrations were the order of the day as two of Blyford wellbeing centre’s customers turned 100 and 101. Edith Bartlett and Dorothy Middleton, who both live in Lowestoft, celebrated their milestones with a party hosted by the team at Care UK’s Blyford wellbeing centre, a day club for older people who still live independently in the community.

The party included entertainment from local group Friends In Harmony, birthday cake, singing and dancing. The two birthday ladies were also presented with flowers and chocolates.

Marc Scott, Blyford Wellbeing Centre Manager, said: “We are very pleased to have celebrated Edith and Dorothy’s birthdays here at the wellbeing centre. They have both reached a fantastic age and it was great to be able to throw them such a fun and exciting party with their friends and family.”

Dorothy Middleton aged 100, who lives in Lowestoft and attends the wellbeing centre two days a week, was born in Cromer. She worked in factories, including the ammunition plant in the Second World War, until she was 63 years of age. Edith Bartlett aged 101, who was born in London but has lived in Lowestoft since 1970, originally worked as a typist before working at a foundary making steel ropes for ships. She married her husband in 1932 and had two children, Maureen and Jacqueline.

Edith Bartlett said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed our birthday party, it was a lovely day and we were both very pleased to have received such a beautiful bouquet of flowers.”

Blyford wellbeing centre is part of Blyford Residential Care Home run by Care UK. With spaces for up to 35 people per day, the wellbeing centre provides day care activities and clubs which help older people to maintain their independence for longer in their own homes and give valuable respite services for family carers.
