Ipswich homes make the first National Care Home Open Day a success

Company news

On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Ipswich we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.

At Sidegate Lane visitors watched as judges decided on the tightly contested best-decorated summer hat competition for residents. During the afternoon there were entertainments and plenty of activities. Manager Tania Moore said: “It was a wonderful afternoon. We were joined by pupils from local schools and the residents loved welcoming them to their home.”

Meanwhile at Crabbe Street the community joined in for two sessions of fun and activities, with a Tai Chi event in the day centre, along with an exhibition of paintings created by the centre’s day care visitors and an afternoon of local films as well as cream teas.

Finally, at Hawthorn Drive care home, visitors were joined by the Mayor of Ipswich, Cllr Hamil Clarke, as students from Suffolk One and residents had fun filling a time capsule to be opened in 50 years. Visitors were also able to view exciting new building plans for the home and wellbeing centre.

As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
