Summer fun comes to care homes in and around Dagenham

Company news

On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in the Dagenham area we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.

Local people took the chance to visit Cherry Orchard care home in Dagenham, where staff and residents had organised a barbecue and a variety of stalls and games. Manager Esther Enwezor said: “Our residents performed songs and local entertainers played their part in a very happy afternoon – the open day gave us a chance to show people some of what we do regularly.”

At Heatherbrook care home in Romford, visitors enjoyed a garden party with cakes and refreshments as well as musical entertainment. Manager Maribel Pascual said: “As well as the garden party, we had music from the Sully Sisters and Johnny Lawrence. We hope our guests enjoyed it all as much as we did.”

Displays of craftwork produced by residents at Meadow Court in Ilford were on show for the open day and guests could also experience the home’s sensory and reminiscence rooms – these are beneficial for residents with dementia. Meadow Court’s garden party went with a swing, raising money for the Alzheimer's Society.

As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
