On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
Games, activities and a chance to view displays showing life around the home were all on offer to our guests at Tiltwood in Cobham. Manager Diana Wiltshire said: “We had a real chance to show people how our activity based care works for residents, to boost their health and wellbeing.”
Wimbledon and Royal Ascot provided the themes for the fun at Norfolk House, Weybridge, and the afternoon was enlivened by music from a local singer. Manager Karen Byres said: “This gave us the perfect chance to play our part in the community and have fun too.”
Visitors to Milner House in Leatherhead had the chance to look round the historic home and to admire exhibitions of residents’ activities and work. Manager Tosh Latchman said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.”
Children from local schools were able to enjoy petting some farm animals at Appleby House in Epsom, and there were plenty of games and attractions, including face painting, to keep younger visitors happy.
As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
