We take a trip around the world with some young friends

Company news

We had a very exciting visit recently from a group of students who helped us on a journey around the world - and we didn’t even need to leave Cherry Orchard!

The young people, from schools and colleges in the local community, were members of Challenge Network – a group which aims to provide 15-17 year-olds with the chance to work with a range of people to develop new life skills.

During their visit the group spent time getting to know our residents and team and finding out about their activities and interests. They also spent time playing a travel game with our residents using a map of the world and cards with questions about residents’ experiences and their likes and dislikes on different food types.

Our manager Esther Enwezor said: “The students really bonded with the residents and they were able to capture many of their thoughts and experiences in their own words. They told them about memories from their home countries, what life used to be like in London, Jamaica, Trinidad and Grenada and about their favourite food and drink which included plantain and Baileys.

“The young people told us they had a very positive and memorable experience. Many of them have written to say that it was an experience that has taught them a great deal about working with older people and it has changed their preconceptions, as they had never expected to laugh as much or learn so much during their time with our residents.”
