Care home manager wins place in national award finals

Company news

A Suffolk care home manager, Kym Denny, who manages Paddock House in Eye, has won through to Care UK’s National Residential Care Services Awards finals. She is one of five finalists selected from the 107 Care UK home managers around the UK and has been selected because of her warm and welcoming manner and her ability to go the extra mile with residents, visitors and colleagues.

Kym, who has been manager at Paddock House since 2009, was nominated for the Customer Service award category, where judges look for qualities such as approachability, hospitality and a warm personality. Kym is one of five finalists in the Customer Service category and is looking forward to the announcement of the winner at the award ceremony and gala dinner organised by Care UK on 14th November at Heythrop Park Resort in Oxford.

Kym Denny said she is surprised and delighted to have made it through to the finals: “I am honoured to be a finalist in this year’s National Residential Care Services Awards. Having worked in the care sector since 1997, I love my job and receive a great deal of pleasure from making a positive difference to residents’ lives.

“The team here at Paddock House always strive to provide a warm and relaxed welcoming atmosphere to residents, their families and friends, and to all those who visit us. People often comment on the customer service they receive at Paddock House and it is a wonderful feeling for this to be recognised in the national awards.”

Kym Denny’s door is always open and she is continually willing to go the extra mile, as highlighted in the heart-warming work that Kym and her team undertook to reunite a resident with his sister who, having spent 25 years living together, found themselves separated for a year living in different care homes in the county. The team at Paddock House tracked down the sister’s location and, after working with social services and the other home, the brother and sister were successfully reunited at Paddock House, where they both now live and see each other daily.

Paddock House on Wellington Road in Eye provides residential care for older people, including individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. To find out more about Paddock House and other Care UK homes in Suffolk visit www.careuk.com/suffolk

Care UK runs 107 care homes across the UK including 16 former Suffolk County Council homes which it took responsibility for in December 2012. It has submitted planning permission for a bespoke new care home and wellbeing centre on the site of Hartismere Health and Care in Eye and if given the green light, work would begin in April 2014 with the new development opening in April 2015.
